John E. Taylor

Of Counsel

John E. Taylor received his B.A., magna cum laude, from Valdosta State College (now University) in 1981. He continued to the Lumpkin School of Law at the University of Georgia, where he was a member of the law review and Order of the Coif and from which he graduated with his juris doctor degree magna cum laude in 1984. Thereafter, after serving as law clerk to The Honorable Lewis R. Morgan, Senior Judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, he practiced in various law firms in the metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia area before beginning his solo practice in 2008. John is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and its Real Property Law and General Practice and Trial Law Sections and the Cobb County Bar Association and its Solo Practitioner/Small Firm and Business Law and Litigation Sections. He served on the Executive Committee of the Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia, and as co-chair of its legislative subcommittee, for six years. He is also an inactive member of the Florida Bar. His peer review rating on Martindale is "AV® Preeminent™."

John's practice focuses on commercial real estate equity and finance transactions (representing both borrowers and lenders) and involves all property types, including multifamily (including low-income), hotels, restaurants, office, warehouse, flex, and timberlands. He has also long represented lenders in real estate, corporate and asset-financed financings. Recent representations include assisting in the formation and organization of a land bank authority, advising a low-income housing developer in the resolution of certain aspects of a troubled property portfolio, organizing limited liability companies involved in various businesses, and rendering opinions as local Georgia counsel for out-of-state commercial real estate purchasers and lenders.

John represents clients in real property-related litigation and is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the Supreme Court of the State of Georgia, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the Court of Appeals of the State of Georgia, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia and all trial courts of the State of Georgia.

As a neutral licensed and registered by the Administrative Office of the Courts of Georgia and the Georgia Commission on Dispute Resolution, John has the opportunity to assist other attorneys and their clients resolve disputes more effectively and efficiently.

John is on the board of directors of Tapestry Development Group, a nonprofit low-income housing developer, and plays trombone with the Atlanta Swing Orchestra.
